Google Nest Cam Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera – Is it worth it?

When it comes to “your home” and not just making it secure, but keeping it secure, you want to know you have the best security system available.

Today, I’m going to review the Google Nest Cam Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera and find out if is it worth its hefty price!

The Smart Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera. Oh & the best bit is, it’s battery operated

The battery-powered Nest Cam works anywhere you need it, from the living room to the kitchen. Even on the porch, and at the end of your garden.

So what do you get for a premium price? For starters, a much nicer, premium design. The Nest Cam is solidly built and with a premium level of finish that wouldn’t look out of place in a high-end show home.

The weight of the camera isn’t just there for show either; it helps keep it in position when it’s on a shelf. Also, its built-in metal arm makes it easy to tilt and pan the camera lens so it points exactly where you want it to.

The Nest Cam also comes with a certain amount of free “Google” Cloud Storage, which isn’t something its big-name rivals offer. It only stores video clips up to three hours into the past – after that, the clips are deleted – but at least you can actually use most of the camera’s features without paying for a subscription; with Ring’s cameras, if you don’t pay, the only thing you can do is tap into the live feed.

Otherwise, the Nest Cam’s specifications are pretty standard. As the name suggests, the Nest isn’t a battery-powered camera, so although video and audio are both sent over your wireless network, power is drawn from the mains. Fortunately, the power cable is long enough – at three meters – that you can position the camera pretty much wherever you like, even if your plug sockets are in a less-than-ideal location.

Nest Cam can even tell the difference between a person and a vehicle, so you can set the alerts that you want.

Take ActionTake action in an instant.

If something happens, you can respond to alerts directly from the Google Home app (which you must install in order for you to manage the Camera).

Fits your home.

Accessories, including a stand and weatherproof cable, help Nest Cam to fit your space.

Pros
  • AI detection works well
  • Multi-camera subscription is well priced
  • Good-quality video and audio with minimal lag
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Does not provide third-party monitored emergency notification or response.
  • Single camera subscription is pricey

As for the price of it, well, it is on the expensive side compared to the Ring Stick-up Camera, but the fact it’s from Google gives you the assurance that it’s a well-respected product.

In my opinion, if you have an Android Phone and/or run an Android system in your home, then this is the product for you, as it integrates seamlessly with your Android system. Just download the Google Home App
